According to an old Indian proverb: « We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, but we borrow it from our children ».
It is therefore our duty to protect our environment, especially against global warming.
Yes, I define myself as an eco-friendly person. I love nature and animals (except sharks, crocodiles, snakes and mosquitos) and I don’t want to see any of them disappearing by our fault.
Unfortunately, countries are very slow to react even if aware of the threats. Which means that big firms, if not imposed rules to protect the environment, will not change their habits. Except if they notice a change in consumers’ habits and a new opportunity for their business. Let’s give them this opportunity by really caring about our environment and adapting our way of life accordingly.
I listed below some simple gestures that I believe can have a great positive impact on the environment if everybody adopts them:
-Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
-Recycle (paper, glass, plastic, batteries, light bulbs…)
-Buy products with a minimum packaging
-Take showers rather than baths
-Buy some strong shopping bags to replace plastic bags given in supermarkets
-Buy local and seasonal products
-Buy low consumption light bulbs
-Turn off the light when you leave a room
-Invest in a tumbler or a travel mug to replace paper or plastic disposal cups
-Favour tap water when drinkable
-Ask to receive online statements
-Pay your bill online
-Walk, cycle or take public means of transport
-Give to charity organisations clothes and objects still in good/working conditions instead of throwing them away
-Use washing machine and dishwasher only when full
-Invest in a dual flush or put a brick in the toilet’s tank
-Don’t automatically put the air conditioning or the heating on
-Adjust the temperature of your fridge and freezer and defrost the freezer when needed
Some of these gestures might be a bit annoying at the beginning but will quickly become natural, like buckling the seatbelt when in a car.
But most of them are not only good for the planet, they’re also good for your wallet!
So start to adopt them today, if not already done, and save the polar bears together!
This list is not exhaustive. Please share if you thing about other simple gestures.
