Marseille is also known as the city of 111 villages. But over the years, with the expansion of the city, these villages have become districts. Each district has nonetheless kept its own identity.
You can therefore imagine that Marseille is a very extensive city.
And if you don’t have a car, your only option to visit Notre Dame de la Garde, le Panier, le Stade Vélodrome, les calanques … will be to use the means of transportation (not expensive by the way).
This is why it isn’t as important to stay in the “center” as it can be in another city.
