Champagne + Fromage – a cheese restaurant in London

I really miss the traditional French dishes prepared by my mother and grand-mother (such as Blanquette de veau, my all-time favourite).
But I rarely eat in a French restaurant abroad because I know that chances are great that I will end up disappointed.
The only exception is if the restaurant is specialised in cheese, because you can never be disappointed with cheese! At least, I can’t. I’m a huge cheese lover. I love them all: soft cheese, hard cheese, goat cheese, cow cheese, ewe cheese, fresh cheese, old cheese…

Last year, I was invited to celebrate a birthday at Champagne + Fromage. I really liked the place, the Champagne and the food and swear to come back. But a year has passed before I finally managed to come back, this summer, with my father.

Like almost everywhere in London, it’s recommended to book a table. We didn’t and had to wait for 15 minutes before a table became available.

When you enter, you can’t miss the cheese display on the right hand side.
The place is quite small, with a rustic touch.

We ordered some Champagne Rosé to quench our thirst.
The carefully sourced selection of 16 different Champagnes, have all been produced by award-winning, family-owned producers committed to creating quality wines from their own vineyards and can’t be found in supermarkets.

Then, we had a look at the food menu.
I already knew what I wanted for dessert but not for before.
We finally ordered for a baked Camembert with pesto and sundered tomatoes, a cheese board and a Corsican cured meat selection.
For the cheese board, I opted for 3 of my favourite cheeses: St Maure goat cheese, Old Comté and Morbier.

You might be curious to know what I wanted for dessert and you might be surprised by my answer.
I’m normally not a huge fan of chocolate fondant but last time I came, I was intrigued by the Fondant au Chocolat with Bleu des Basques cheese, ordered it and loved it. So I treated myself and ordered the same. The association chocolate/blue cheese might seem weird but is actually amazing!

I had such a fantastic dinner! Champagne and cheese have always been my soft spots. I can’t wait to come back, with my boyfriend with time.
