Chai Latte is one of my favourite hot drink.
And guess what? It’s super easy to make!
The secret is to make a syrup.
Better to do it when you don’t crave for a Chai Latte as you will need to let it infuse.
And when you will really crave for one, you won’t have to brave the cold and queue to order. Amazing, isn’t it?
Ingredients for the Chai syrup:
-Sugar (white or brown). There must be the same quantity of sugar and water. In this recipe: 350 gr.
-Spices: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, black pepper and star anise.
Depending of your taste, you can play on the quantity. In this recipe, I used 2 sticks of cinnamon, 2 cardamom pods, 6 cloves, 6 black peppercorns and 3 star anise pods.
-1 or 2 slice(s) of fresh ginger
Method for the Chai syrup:
-Make the water boil
-Add the sugar and stir until it has been dissolved
-Crunch the cardamom pods between your fingers
-Add all the spices and the slice(s) of ginger
-Remove from the fire
-Wait until the mix has cooled down
-Put the mix in a container, cover it and put it in the fridge
-Let it infuse for about 2 days
-Remove all the spices
-Put the syrup in a bottle to store it
Then, to make a Chai Latte, you only have to put some syrup in a cup and to add some warm milk. For the final touch, you can dust it with cinnamon powder.
Tips 1: Add a dash of alcohol (like vodka) in you Chai syrup to keep it longer.
Tips 2: Use a frothed if you want your Chai Latte to be foamy.
