Caffix is a new concept store that opened a few weeks ago in London.
And the concept is brilliant: to offer high quality drinks and food for only £1.00!
I was very curious to see what we could actually get for £1.00.
So, one day my boyfriend and I were on a shopping session on Oxford Street (which happens all too rarely!), we decided to give it a try.
To be honest, we were a bit skeptical and this is why we were even more pleasantly surprised.
There was much more choice than we expected. Indeed, there was a large selection of salads, sandwiches, pastries and drinks, even chai latte!
Apparently, they also serve 2 soups changing weekly as a hot option but I didn’t pay attention to them.
The portions are obviously smaller than those of Prêt à Manger but the ratio price/quantity is better.
I like the idea of small portions because it allows to mix and match like you want. It also allows to control more easily the quantity you need to eat and therefore avoid to waste.
The choice was hard to make because everything looked fresh, good and appetizing.
We finally bought:
-a pasta/ratatouille salad
-a quinoa salad
-a terryaki chicken
-a brie and tomato sandwich
-a tuna sandwich
-a chicken and avocado sandwich
-a San Pellegrino lemon sparkling
-a San Pellegrino blood orange sparkling
-a pair of aragostines stuffed with chocolate/hazelnut and white chocolate
-a chai latte
All of this only cost £10.00! Unbelievable!
Caffix is able to kill the prices because they reduced the hidden costs like rent, decoration and marketing to the minimum.
Indeed, the place is quite small, the decoration is more than minimalist and there is only logo on the hot drinks’ cups (which might be given by a brand of coffee or else).
Caffix has a few tables outside on the sidewalk but we don’t like to eat so near from the road so we headed to a greener place.
We drank the chai latte on our way. We’re huge fan of Chai latte. And even if none of the ones we tried ever beat our homemade chai latte, this one entered directly in my top 5.
When we arrived to Soho square, it was full of people. It always is on sunny days, especially with the shitty weather we’ve had lately.
I wanted to eat on the grass but my boyfriend wanted to sit on a bench. I don’t know why he can be so “bourgeois” sometimes but he won and we ate on a bench.
We were impressed by the quality of the food. The ratio price/quality is excellent too.
The ratatouille was very flavoured. The bread of my sandwich tasted like a real French baguette. And the aragostines were from another world.
It was definitely the best value lunch I’ve ever had!
Caffix is a great initiative that deserves to be shared and encouraged. It proves that it’s possible to run a business without overcharging the customers. I hope it will inspire other people to do the same.
